In the joyous atmosphere of the back-to-school season for more than 23 million students across Vietnam, on September 5th, 2024, the Department of Cooperation and Development organized the Orientation Day for the international exchange students from Poland, France and Germany joining the exchange semester of the academic year 2024-2025 at UEL.
As part of the UEL Credit Transfer Program between the University of Economics and Law and partner universities, the Orientation Day provided international students with an opportunity to learn about the history, geography and culture of the S-shaped country. Additionally, they were equipped with ‘survival’ tips, not just to integrate into the Asian lifestyle, but also to be aware of some typical cultural shocks during their stay in Vietnam, avoiding any ‘a-whole-new-world’ situations that are completely different from Europeans.
To showcase Vietnam’s unique cuisine and our hospitality, DCD kindly treated our special guests to traditional delights like mooncakes, salted egg sponge cakes, bánh rế (deep-fried shredded sweet potato cake) along with various tropical fruits and Thái Nguyên green tea. After all, as the saying goes, “You can’t think on an empty stomach”, right?
The Orientation’s highlight was an overview of academic rules at UEL, along with key events and activities designed for international students throughout the year. More importantly, the students had a chance to meet their UEL buddies and join in the fun game of “Hidden Tune,” where the most synchronized buddy pair was crowned!. After the bonding activities, any initial awkwardness quickly disappeared, paving the way for an exciting journey of study and cultural exchange among all the students. At the end of the event, DCD took the exchange students on a Campus Tour, giving them a chance to explore the green beauty of UEL’s campus.
“It’s only the first day of the program but I’ve already felt so much joy, such a warm welcome, and so much positive energy here. I’m really looking forward to experiencing even more during my journey in Vietnam.” - Prune El Dabi, a French exchange student, giggled.
Although the Orientation lasted for only one day, it helped the international students gain a better understanding of Vietnam and UEL, bringing together people who were strangers just a few hours ago and turning them into friends. Let's treasure these precious memories together with DCD!
