"My first time traveling abroad was to Vietnam, and it has truly been an incredible experience,” enthusiastically shared Lin Yi-Chang, a student from Asia University. “While Vietnam and Taiwan share many cultural similarities, the unique characteristics are what truly captivated me.”
This is just one of the heartfelt thoughts shared by Taiwanese students during the Vietnam - Taiwan cultural exchange event between Asia University (AU) and the University of Economics and Law, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (UEL, VNUHCM) on August 6th, 2024 under the theme “Bridging Cultures”, held at UEL Startup & Language Space.
During the exchange session, Taiwanese students had a chance to delve deeper into Vietnamese history, diverse geography, and vibrant culture through top-recommended destinations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi City, and the ancient capital of Hue... When it comes to Vietnam, one cannot overlook its rich culinary culture, featuring signature dishes like phở (pho), cơm tấm (broken rice), bánh xèo (Vietnamese pancake), and bánh tráng trộn (rice paper salad). Surely, the students have gathered valuable "tips" to find both satisfying meals and interesting culinary experiences during their stay in Vietnam.
The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the “Conical Hat Decoration” activity, where students creatively designed unique souvenirs. On the picturesque white conical hats with purple ribbons from Hue, the Taiwanese students had the chance to showcase their artistic talents by painting flags, rice plants, and lotuses, and even more! Some humorously drew their favorite anime characters on the hats, creating a joyful and vibrant atmosphere. Indeed, creativity knows no bounds!
The event wrapped up with a friendly lunch between Vietnamese and Taiwanese students, leaving behind memories that will forever remain in the hearts of the young participants. Let’s take a moment to join the Department of Cooperation and Development in looking back on these cherished moments.
