National Young Leaders Fellowship Programme 2024: From a dream of serving the community to an opportunity to become future young leaders with Halogen Foundation

When it comes to VNUHCM students, people say they are the epitome of “perfect students” - not only excelling in their studies but also actively participating in extracurricular activities with a strong desire to contribute to society. This was proven true in June 2024 when two UEL students had the honor of being selected by the Halogen Foundation to travel to Singapore and launch community service projects, bringing positive contributions to society.

Let's join the Department of Cooperation and Development to explore the "Giving is Receiving" story of Ms. Dang Quynh Chau, student from the Faculty of Finance - Banking and Ms. Nguyen Thanh Uyen Thi, student from the Faculty of Business Administration, and learn how they were chosen to become young leaders in Singapore!

“I joined NYLF with the project "Improving Facilities and English Learning Environment for Children in Tánh Linh District" because English has completely changed my life. It has opened up many opportunities for me to study and get to know different cultures, knowledge, and wonderful teachers and friends from all over the world. I want to bring similar opportunities to the children. After attending the orientation in Singapore, I learned a lot of knowledge and skills to become a better young leader. I was inspired by those Singaporeans who have contributed to changing this island city. This helped me overcome my self-doubt and gave me strength to participate in more projects. I also learned how to empathize and share properly with those around me to create meaning in life and bring effectiveness to work. Most importantly, I met like-minded young people with the same goal of building a stronger society. I wish the next batch of UEL-ers will get the chance to become a "Cohort" next year!” – Ms. Nguyen Thanh Uyen Thi, B22 student of UEL Faculty of Business Administration.

“After the program, I discovered and understood more about my strengths, and I was guided to build community projects that contribute to social development. I strengthened my beliefs, set personal goals through discussions and exchanges with experts. The exchange program boosted my confidence in my leadership abilities and made me realize the importance of individual contributions. During my time studying here, I broadened my horizons, became more open-minded, and ready to contribute to society’s development. After the exchange program, I will continue to accompany the Halogen Foundation in the next 9 months to build and develop projects for the community of individuals with hearing impairments in Vietnam.” – Dang Quynh Chau, B23 student of UEL Faculty of Finance - Banking.

NYLF 2024 program information:
Halogen Foundation is a non-profit organization (NGO) established in 2003 in Singapore with the aim of guiding capable young people to become potential leaders through projects and programs funded by the Singapore Government and various local and international organizations and businesses.
The National Young Leaders Fellowship (NYLF) program was launched in 2022 to seek "Cohorts", offering opportunities for young people aged 15-19 with a passion for community service under the guidance and mentorship of Halogen experts. From 2024 onwards, the NYLF program has expanded to young people in the ASEAN region, including Vietnam.
Selected candidates will receive full sponsorship for a 5-day participation in the NYLF 2024 Induction Program in Singapore, aimed at discovering their capabilities and receiving leadership training. The “Cohorts” will also meet their mentors and get to know other candidates from the ASEAN region. The sponsorship covers round-trip airfare, meals, accommodation, and transportation for the 5 days in Singapore. The program runs from July 2024 to March 2025 (9 months) combining online and offline sessions. Participants will join in monthly online meetings for project guidance and community service project operation advice according to their personal aspirations. The program creates opportunities to expand networks with ASEAN candidates and leading NGOs in Singapore.
