Vietnam - Singapore Culinary Exchange Program: "UEL-NUS: Roll & Stroll" with National University of Singapore

The University of Economics and Law, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (UEL, VNUHCM) is proud to be the only partner university of NUS in Vietnam to host the "UEL-NUS Culinary Exchange: Roll & Stroll," welcoming nearly 40 students from National University of Singapore (NUS) to engage with UELers and European exchange students.

During the event, participants had the chance to immerse themselves in Vietnamese culture and cuisine by making their own “gỏi cuốn” (Vietnamese rice paper rolls) and learning to identify different types of rolls in Vietnamese.

Alongside the fun of making rolls, international students were warmly treated to a buffet feast featuring iconic Vietnamese dishes  such as “chả giò” (fried spring rolls), “kẹo dừa” (coconut candy), “kẹo đậu phộng” (peanut brittle), “bánh tráng sữa” (milk rice paper), “bánh cốm” (crunchy rice cakes), “bánh da lợn” (steamed layer cakes), “bánh kẹp mè” (sesame rice crackers), “bánh pía” (pia durian mooncakes), and dried tropical fruits - a "luxurious" snack in Singapore. The feast wouldn’t have been complete without Vietnamese coffee. The 9-dish buffet with various local specialties is not merely an epitome of the hospitality of Vietnamese, but it is also insprired by the Nine Dragon River Delta in Vietnam, which originates in the Mekong Delta.

"With simple ingredients like coconut, peanuts, and glutinous rice, the Vietnamese have created many unique dishes with distinct flavors. Thanks to the culinary exchange between UEL and NUS, I’ve had the chance to taste these amazing dishes, and I’m truly impressed by Vietnamese cuisine," shared Wenjun Zhao, an NUS student.

"The 9-dish buffet and the thoughtful souvenirs that clearly show the imprint of Vietnamese cuisine. Through these exchange activities and the academic environment at UEL, I’mconfident that choosing UEL as my exchange destination was the best decision," said Julia Barbara Kwiecień, a student from the Krakow University of Economics (UEK), Poland.

Global Industry Insights program, organized by NUS’s Center for Future-ready Graduates, designed to provide NUS students with insights into the operations of prominent businesses during company tours in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to the valuable business visits, NUS has selected UEL as a trusted partner to organize the Vietnam-Singapore cultural exchange program, offering Singaporean students the opportunity to explore and experience the richness of Vietnamese cuisine and culture.
